Technical Manager – Senior Engineer (Actuators)

About Freevalve:

Work on a highly intelligent, lightweight and motivated team to achieve our goal of revolutionizing the combustion engine with Freevalve technology. The technical manager will be responsible for the overall technical direction and leadership of the development team. Due to the nature of small companies, this includes a large range of activities from working with the CEO, CMO and customers to set technical targets, to guiding engineers through daily activities.

Internal Activities & Responsibilities:

  • Present technical updates and budgets to CEO for approval or adjustment
  • Set internal targets and deadlines aligned with customer deliverables
  • Formulate milestones and lead team on daily basis to ensure successful completion of these
  • Maintain strong relationship with employees and adjust resources, tools, and support as necessary to achieve targets
  • Manage human resource activities including hiring, salary negotiations and performance reviews
  • Ensure R&D activities are moving in direction aligned with vision of the company and business strategy
  • Iterate leadership and management strategies to ensure all members of the team are fully utilized
  • Manage tasks for engineers to create strong practices in design, development, quality control, organization and robustness of final product

External Activities & Responsibilities:

  • Reflect technical strategy and development schedule to define scope of customer projects and potential timelines
  • Present project proposals and quotations to customers
  • Maintain communication about technical progress, problems and solutions with all customers
  • Organize support programs for ongoing projects and outline activities required to ensure the success of Freevalve installations at various sites

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or similar
  • 2+ years experience in leadership or project management role over technical team
  • 3+ years experience in technical design involving advanced knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, or electronics
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize facts and data to make difficult decisions with high risks in either direction
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years in design experience specifically in automotive industry
  • High level of experience in development process of mass-production oriented products for automotive market
  • Deep insight and experience into the automotive industry including past and future developments, failures, and overall trends
  • Advanced understanding of combustion engines and thermodynamic concepts related to combustion engine calibration

Control Systems Engineer

Overview:

Work on a highly intelligent, lightweight and motivated team to achieve our goal of revolutionizing the combustion engine with Freevalve technology. As an engineer in the Control Systems team, you will work with embedded electronics and software, utilizing the full capabilities of the Freevalve system. This will challenge your abilities and imagination, solving complicated and time critical problems and finding solutions to problems that used to be unsolvable.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities are programming real time embedded systems in C/C++ and testing the code in the lab and in real engines. This may involve assisting in setting up engines in test cells or vehicles and help troubleshooting the installs.

There are possibilities for participating in planning, construction, evaluation and tests of embedded electronic circuits and systems.

Sometimes there will be a need for writing various forms of documentation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree in relevant field
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in real time embedded systems development
  • Experience in C/C++
  • Hands on experience with electronics
  • Fluent in English

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Mechatronics experience
  • Knowledge of combustion engines and technology
  • Experience with XCP/CCP, CAN, OBD-II and other automotive standards
  • Experience with NXP (Freescale) PPC based automotive MCU’s
  • Additional knowledge in ARM, PIC and other MCU families
  • Additional programming skills in Assembler and Python
  • Experience in software development for PC and other hardware platforms
  • Experience in automotive applications
  • Experience in electronics construction and PCB layout

Design Engineer

Overview:

Work on a highly intelligent, lightweight and motivated team to achieve our goal of revolutionizing the combustion engine with Freevalve technology. A Freevalve design engineer works closely with the calibration and electronics development teams to discuss advanced concepts and take responsibility for bringing them to life on the engines. You will be given large ownership over components and must rely on intuition and experience to ensure that these parts will perform to the highest automotive standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with people from all levels of the company to design future concepts, improve existing concepts and manage hardware
  • Act as primary point of contact of contact with suppliers and help expand existing network to advance manufacturing possibilities
  • Take ownership of components to meet high-level deadlines
  • Develop parts inspection and testing procedures to ensure hardware quality
  • Maintain parts organization from bill of materials, hardware storage, assembly and test history

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical / automotive engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in advanced technology design with 3D modeling techniques
  • Experience in design with weight, cost, packaging and performance targets
  • Basic knowledge of combustion engine operation, 2 and 4 stroke
  • Thorough understanding of hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems
  • Take initiative and be a strong, constructive member of a team

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Masters degree in mechanical / automotive engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of combustion engines and current technology
  • Proficiency with Catia V5 or similar (Boolean operations, model building practices)
  • Familiarity with prototype and mass-production oriented design targets and methods
  • Hands-on experience with engine dyno / vehicle installations
  • Basic fabrication and manufacturing experience
  • History of personal projects related to combustion engines
